Ways To Make Money On The Internet

Ways to Make Money on the Internet

By Kurt Maxwell

With all the craziness going on in the economy and on Wall Street, average people are feeling nervous and tired over their future job security. Too many industries have laid off large numbers of workers for anyone to feel like they're in the catbird seat at their place of employment. To offset this insecurity, more and more people are looking for ways to make money on the internet. Here are some suggestions which might work for you.

There are basically two categories of ways to make money on the internet. You can create a website or blog and sell products and services. Developing a website or blog can take quite a while and lots of work, before you start to see a return. However, if you're serious about becoming self reliant and have the self discipline to work on your site consistently, you can make it happen. You'll also need to get up to speed on internet marketing. There's a lot to learn about getting good search engine rankings. You may find it quicker just to hire someone to do it for you. There are many top-notch marketers who can help. These people will be able to tailor a marketing campaign to your situation.

Some people are very successful as sellers on eBay. There is a learning curve there too, familiarizing yourself with the way things work. This avenue is well suited to people who like garage sales, flea markets, antique collecting and such.  Essentially, you find deals on items in your area of the marketplace and turn them over for a profit. You set a minimum bid (which assumes you'll make a profit!). Whatever you get over the minimum bid is gravy.

In the second category of ways to make money on the internet, you might opt for freelancing, selling your skills to existing websites. This is probably a faster way to an income, but be prepared to work hard. Again, self discipline is key to your success. For example, if you have graphic design skills, or are good at web design, there's plenty of work to be had. If you're a writer, editor or proofreader, you'll find work. There are plenty of job boards for freelancers, so look around for ones pertaining to your skill set.

What if you don't have any specialized skills? There are still many ways to make money on the internet, which is a little tougher and absolutely requiring due diligence on your part. However, some people do well enough to make a living. You'll find companies that pay you to review software as well as websites. There are also opportunities to fill out surveys and get paid to do so! You must watch out for scammers, as, just as in everyday society, they're on the net. Google 'top work at home jobs' for thousands of results. If you decide to sign up with a company, Google 'scams company-name' to see if they are legitimate.

Last, but not least in our ways to make money on the internet comes from Google. Google Answers pays $2.50 if you can answer a question in your areas of expertise.

Build up your business gradually. Don't quit your day job before your net income exceeds what you're now making! Good luck!

Do Affiliate Marketing Programs Work?

Do Affiliate Marketing Programs Work?

By Kurt Maxwell

If you’ve spent any time at all on the Internet in the last few years, you’ve heard about affiliate marketing programs. It’s a pretty simple concept that has a lot of attractiveness for a prospective marketer – there’s little to no cost outlay at the beginning of the process, and if the marketing efforts are not successful, the marketer doesn’t pay. But are the tales of huge money from affiliate marketing true, or is this just another Internet bubble? Let’s take a look at how the process works.

Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing system that works exclusively on the Internet. At its base, it involves paying back a small amount of money for customers referred to your product or service. The URL that is provided to the web browser contains a unique affiliate ID, and clicks using that ID are totaled and credited to the affiliate. The concept originated with adult websites in the early 1990s, but it wasn’t long until major online retailers like Amazon.com were using it as well. Most affiliate marketing programs depend on a large number of affiliates to drive traffic.

The great majority of affiliate marketing programs pay on a CPS, or "cost per sale" basis – if the web surfer makes a purchase through an affiliate link, the affiliate gets paid. A smaller number use CPC, or "cost per click" – each clickthrough on an affiliate link pays a (typically much smaller) amount. Due to fraud and other issues, CPC is on the decline. Additionally, many of these programs offer payment options either in cash or credit for the program owner’s business, keeping more of the money in their pockets.

If you are interested in creating an affiliate marketing program for your product or service, there are a few important business concerns to address. Foremost, you should ensure that you occupy a market niche that can support this kind of venture – competing with an existing program for the same product is essentially a fool’s game, as their market penetration will make it very difficult for you to build a large enough team of affiliates without offering more competitive financial terms. In addition, the administrative component of an affiliate program can become overwhelming as the program grows – you will be making payments to hundreds if not thousands of individuals, and if they make over $400 you will be required to submit a 1099 form to the IRS for them as well.

Affiliate marketing programs can be a powerful tool for an Internet-savvy small business, but they’re not a short road to fortune. Be aware of their strengths and weaknesses before you invest in developing one.
