As A Callow Teenager, I Found A Book That Wrecked My Life
Joe Karbo ruined my life. You may think that an alarming introduction to one of my missives which are usually buoyant and cheerful (I hope) and frequent readers could say “hold on, do you not you mean spivs, fraudsters and robbers Jim Akin (of Swainston Hall, The Wynd, TS22 5QE in case of confusion in case of namesake Jim Akin’s) and his verminous sibling John Akin, directors of Kalmindon Ltd?” And I don’t actually, the stain that pairs left on my life was a sour annoyance. No, if I hadn’t come across Joe Karbo as an inexperienced youth of about 18, I probably would not have entered the radar of the Brothers Grim and I would still have the three grand they conned out of me. Mind you, then I most likely wouldn’t have come across and learned SEO which I adore, but hey ho.
No, Joe Karbo wrote a book titled The Lazy Man’s Guide To Riches and I went through it and it gave me hope. The git! It was sold as a book about how to start, operate and maintain a mail order firm, but before you got to that, Joe describeda mind system he named Dyna/Psyc which was a way of gearing the subconscious to work out solutions to challenges in a similar way to transcendental meditation, and was effectively the 1st self-help book I found. Much of the book is redundant these days in its original form, but the modern mail order version of it is to be seen in affiliate marketing, which has a very close symbiosis with search engine optimisation and lo and behold, when I came across the book the other day, I realised I’m still trying after all this time.
The issue I have looking back with old Joe, is that he put the thought in my mind that I may be considerably better off working for myself and owing a business as opposed to going down the company career route. This has led me to try many things, many of which never got off the ground, but included ideas like tailored greetings cards, Mongolian bbq restaurant, internet takeaway restaurant ordering and my current project, an affiliate marketing fishing shop.
I also probably would not have got involved in the Amway plan through which I came across a steady flow of self-help books and I grabbed them, I learned me so much about getting an optimistic outlook, self confidence and belief in myself. In fact, if I had not managed that, I probably would never have taken the jump to go into IT freelancing and hugely increasing my income by utilising my abilities to their best effect. Those skills are dead for the British market now, but they took me all across the country as well as a fabulous happy year in Australia. My latest skills in SEO are very much current and, in my opinion, critical to anybody who has a website and needs it to be seen if they expect to do business through it. Like my affiliate marketing for instance.
So, as you can see, Joe Karbo ruined my life. Thanks fella, I am very grateful in every way for what you did for me and I would not have amended a thing and never intend giving up.
